COBRA U16 12 v 26 Newport (Salop) U16 (Fri 3rd Sept)

A great start to the season

A war of attrition!!

Cobra like to play rugby in a 10m square and are good at that, however it took us a while to solve the problems that were right in front of us. Big ball runners in a tight channel takes courage and teamwork to stop - Socks and shorts, two men to drive one man backwards, just before half-time we did exactly that and the self belief seemed to sink in. Thankfully then second half we continued to be more aggressive in the tackle and with 15 minutes left started to take control of the game. Space is hard to come by against good teams but I felt had we moved the ball quicker from the start of the game and attacked wider channels we could have dominated and made life easier for ourselves.

Considering it was our first game since May I was really impressed with our work rate and our never say die attitude. A few handling errors probably meant we left a few tries out on the pitch but we were creating opportunities and on another day we will finish them all.

Super proud of them all and really pleased to see such great camaraderie in the clubhouse and on the coach home.

Our next game is Sunday 12th September Away V Northampton Ols Scouts RFC U16
