🏉 Team of the Month! 🏉Huge congratulations to Jake Goulson and George Perkins on being named in in the Midlands Rugby Page Team of the Month for January! 👏👏An engine room lockout for our boys is the best news any Front Row could wish for, setting up a solid foundation for a strong scrum and dominant ariel threat. Their hard work, skill, and commitment on the pitch have been outstanding and it's fantastic to see them getting the recognition he deserves! 💪Well done Jake and George! You're a great ambassador for Newport (Salop) RUFC and all at the club are incredibly proud o#newportrugbyw#midlandsrugbyl#teamofthemonthO#uptheport#UpThePort ... See MoreSee Less

🙏 THANK YOU ‘ROCKY’ 🏉❤️Having arrived from Tonga into Birmingham Airport in December 2024, Uluaki (Rocky) immediately threw himself into life with Newport Rugby Club. Literally immediately. Within a couple of hours of landing, he was playing his first game for the club — in the mud, wind and rain at Spartans. Of course, he was Man of the Match… the first of many. That afternoon also saw Rocky first sample Guinness, and the start of a loving relationship with the “Irish Champagne”, which reached a climax with a pilgrimage to Dublin just a few weeks ago. Slowly, he was weaned off Corona and onto British beers, fruit cider and, of course, the Black Stuff — on many a night out, all three in quick succession. It didn’t take long for Rocky to find his way to Ozzy’s and Mainers, and then more latterly the Stag and Scotch. He soon found his feet on the social front. Who could have doubted he would settle in!When he first arrived, Rocky shared a house with Kaid, but after three months he needed to find a new home. The option of sharing with Bowsh didn’t come to fruition and, in need of a temporary solution, Rocky moved in with Mike and Louise Turner. The one-week stay turned into eleven months. He has been a great house guest and has represented his family back in Tonga brilliantly. He has contributed to all aspects of British family life, from festivals and birthdays to overseas trips. He has more than pulled his weight on the domestic front too, including washing up, gardening and dog walking (another first for the Tongan — decreasing weight, that is). Louise rapidly re-introduced vegetables and moved him off the ‘bachelor’-style diet he had adopted. The whole Turner family will miss him.But it is Rocky’s contribution to the Newport (Salop) RUFC family that will be missed the most, and which deserves the greatest emphasis.Uluaki has more than delivered on the promise first seen by the DoR in a YouTube video back in 2024. The stats speak for themselves. His rugby ability, whether in the pack or the centres, speaks for itself too. Rocky has thrown himself into all aspects of life at the club: regularly coaching the U14s on a Tuesday night, stewarding at Bonfire Night, painting the changing rooms, cleaning the showers — the list goes on. His diverse contribution is recognised and much appreciated.Fourteen months of many firsts also include a debut black-tie appearance at the Summer Ball — and who can forget the Run-It-Straight challenge with Dan Boomer? There was only ever going to be one winner. We have seen a quietly spoken man with limited English blossom into a highly valued member of the club — a true gentleman, with great English and a warm personality. He has certainly made the most of his time at our wonderful club, and we have benefited enormously from his presence. Put simply, we have loved having him here.Rocky, you depart Newport, Shropshire with our very best wishes for success in your new adventure in Romania at Timișoara Rugby Club. You are welcome back here any time. We will be following every step of your career.Thank you — and good luck!! ❤️Words by Mike Turner #thankyou#rugbyfamily#tongarugby... See MoreSee Less
