🏉TRY OF THE MONTH – DECEMBER 🏆The votes have been counted across our Facebook and Instagram pages, and although we put SEVERN quality tries in front of you, there was only ONE clear winner. With a whopping 48.3% of the votes, the Try of The Month for December, is Barnaby Rhodes for his scorcher against Caldy! It had it all. Great phase play, several clinical passes, drawing the defenders before Barnaby even got his hands on the ball. When he did though, blink and you’ll miss him (the defenders certainly did!). He jinked left, right, left, right (we think) and then stepped on the gas and left the defenders in his wake!Great work from everyone who was nominated and thanks to you, the fans for backing your favourite Try-light. Keep your eyes peeled for next month’s shortlist and get ready to vote for more Newport magic moments! If you or your business is interested in sponsoring our Try of the Month videos that is returning 20K+ engagement figures and reach, drop us a message to discuss! #NewportRUFC #TryOfTheMonth #UpThePort ... 📣 Club Announcement – A Remarkable Honour for One of Our Own 🏉✨Everyone at Newport (Salop) RUFC is absolutely thrilled to share the wonderful news that John Gormley has been awarded an OBE in the 2026 New Year Honours list, for his exceptional public service. This prestigious recognition from His Majesty The King reflects John’s profound contribution to communities both inside and outside of rugby. Many of you will remember John as the dedicated club physio throughout the early 2000s. A popular and trusted figure who looked after our players with unwavering care and professionalism. He later went on to serve the nation in the prison and probation service, ultimately becoming Governor of HMP The Mount, one of the UK’s leading Category C prisons located in Hertfordshire. John’s leadership extended far beyond the walls of the prison. He was instrumental in shaping and supporting innovative rehabilitation initiatives. Notably the rugby based ITV documentary Grand Slammers: Inside HMP The Mount, where members of England’s 2003 Rugby World Cup winning squad trained a team of inmates, using the spirit and values of our sport to inspire change and hope in lives behind bars. This project was more than television. It was a powerful testament to the transformative potential of rugby to build character, foster teamwork, and open doors to new beginnings for people who had lost their way. John’s vision and belief in sport as a catalyst for positive change helped bring that project to life, proving the values we hold dear at Newport RUFC resonate well beyond our club pitch. Now, as he returns to the club as a Team Manager, we couldn’t be prouder to welcome John back home. His OBE is a tribute not just to his remarkable professional career, but to his commitment to people, his leadership, and his belief in second chances. Values that define rugby at its best. Please join us in congratulating John on this incredibly well-deserved honour. We look forward to celebrating with him on and off the field in the year ahead! 🏆🥂#OBE#ClubHeroes #NewportRUFC #RugbyForLife ... See MoreSee Less
